Izzi Batt-Doyle, Olympian & Australian Middle Distance Runner

Izzi is an Australian Olympian, who competed in the 5,000m at the Tokyo 2020 Games held in 2021. She runs professionally for ASICS and 2XU, is a qualified Personal Trainer, Running Coach, and Provisional Psychologist. She holds personal bests of 31:43 for 10,000m, 15:04 for 5,000m, 8:51 for 3,000m and 4:12 for 1500m.

Izzi spent 5 years competing as a student/athlete at The University of Washington (USA). There she was a multiple All-American and school record holder at the 5,000m(i) and 10,000m. Her career highlights during this time include placing 3rd in the 10,000m at the 2019 NCAA Track & Field Championships and winning the 2019 PAC12 Conference Championship in the 10,000m. Izzi represented Australia at the 2017 and 2019 World University Games in the 10,000m where she placed 7th and 6th respectively.

Izzi had breakout performances in 2020/2021 after years of battling injuries. She won the SA State Road 10km Championships in 32:37, the SA State Track 10,000m Championships in 32:13, and the SA State Track 5,000m Championships where she broke the previous state record held by Lisa Ondieki that was set 25 years ago in 1995 – the year Izzi was born. Izzi placed second in the 2020 Australian 10,000m Championships (held in Jan 2021) with a 30 second personal best of 31:43 to move to #10 Australian all-time and #4 on home soil. In 2021, Izzi won the Box Hill Burn 5,000m in a time of 15:11, just one second away from the Olympic Automatic Qualifying Standard. She bettered this time in The Netherlands running 15:04 to secure the Olympic Qualifying time in the process. This ranks Izzi #6 Australian all-time. At the 2021 Australian 5,000m Championships Izzi finished second place in a strong field. Later that month, Izzi broke the SA 3,000m State Record by 7 seconds running 8:51 to take the win at the State Championships. This added to her previous 5,000m and 3,000m steeplechase state records.

Izzi’s passion and love for running is unparalleled. She is a big believer that running and exercise can have a huge impact on an individual’s happiness and well-being. As a coach she wants to help others to share the benefits that running can provide and educate runners on positive strategies to assist them in their running and everyday life.

In 2021, Izzi commenced a combined Masters/PhD in Clinical Psychology with research in the field of eating disorders. She is passionate about promoting positive body image and healthy eating habits, especially within female sports where disordered eating and body image concerns are extremely prevalent. She hopes to one day work in the field as a Clinical Psychology in the treatment and prevention of eating disorders.
