Gut Health
THE GUT AND IMMUNE SUPPORT BENEFITS OF PREPD
PREPD is an easy and efficient way to get a daily dose of prebiotics into your diet. Prebiotics are great for not only supporting your immunity, but can also assist in weight management, sports performance + recovery, and provide vital nutrients at any stage of your life. The key prebiotic ingredient in PREPD, is our unique form of Resistant Starch. Although PREPD’s primary focus is on the ability of Resistant Starch to improve athletic performance through enhancing hydration, research consistently has shown that a deficiency in fibre (Resistant Starch) can significantly impair immune function and increase our susceptibility to gut health issues.
WHY YOU NEED A HEALTHY GUT?
Your gut health has a large impact on your health and how you feel. It is estimated that almost 70% of the entire immune system is located within the digestive system and this is evidenced by the sheer volume of immune cells that reside there.
Numerous studies have demonstrated the strong link between gut health and;
- the immune system
- autoimmune diseases
- endocrine disorders
- skin conditions
- cancer
- mood
- mental health
Poor gut health or a lack of gut diversity can also have a significant impact on your overall health and can cause inflammation which is linked to obesity, heart disease, arthritis and depression.
PREBIOTICS VS. PROBIOTICS
WHAT ARE PREBIOTICS AND WHAT DO THEY DO?
Prebiotics are non-living, non-digestible fibres that work in your gut, feeding the good gut bacteria (probiotics) such as bifidobacteria and lactobacilli and encouraging them to grow. Feeding the good bacteria promotes a healthy intestinal microbial balance, without feeding bad microorganisms or pathogens (such as, bad bacteria, fungi, parasites, worms, viruses, and even infectious proteins called prions).
Prebiotics can be found in carbohydrates like fruit and vegetables.
WHAT ARE PROBIOTICS AND WHAT DO THEY DO?
Probiotics are live, active bacteria such as bifidobacteria and lactobacilli that enter the gut by ingesting foods and supplements. Probiotic bacteria are live strains of bacteria which are found in a number of foods, including cultured dairy products like yogurt and fermented foods such as sauerkraut. Probiotics can help to detoxify by-products, defend the lining of the intestine, increase the bioavailability of nutrients, and protect the tract against infectious microbes.
PREBIOTICS & PROBIOTICS
Together Prebiotics and Probiotics are an important mix in the gut, as they aid to increase the population of healthy bacteria, aid digestion and enhance the production of valuable vitamins. Good bacteria play a significant role in regulating your immune system, inhibiting the growth of pathogens and digesting food. And a healthy immune system is vital in helping your body to repair, rebuild, and build antibodies. When gut health is good, life is good.
WHAT ARE THE PREBIOTIC BENEFITS OF PREPD?
All PREPD products contain therapeutic levels of prebiotics in the form of our unique Resistant Starch. While there are many different types of Resistant Starch, our research team have extensively tested a diverse range of resistant starches to identify the best one to drive fluid absorption. In doing so, the Resistant Starch in PREPD can boost the body’s hydration effectiveness in the gut to absorb up to an additional 5L of fluid per day. In addition, the stimulation of the bacteria in the gut by Resistant Starches can enhance the absorption of micro-nutrients, such as calcium, and can also improve energy recovery, better immune system, nutrient utilisation and metabolism in the body.
WHAT IS RESISTANT STARCH AND HOW DOES IT WORK?
The active ingredient in PREPD is Resistant Starch. Resistant Starch is a carbohydrate that resists digestion in the small intestine and ferments in the large intestine. It is a complex carbohydrate commonly found in foods such as legumes, potatoes, rice, cereal, fermented foods, to name a few. Normally, enzymes in your small intestine would break down the starch and convert it to glucose, however, Resistant Starch is able to move through the small intestine to arrive in the large intestine where it begins to act as a prebiotic.
Another positive effect of probiotics feeding on the Resistant Starch is the production of short chain fatty acids including butyrate. Butyrate has been shown to be beneficial to your brain, immune, and gut health. The fermentation process by which this occurs, also helps to create a healthy environment in the bowel by regulating pH levels.
RESISTANT STARCH & WHY YOU NEED IT FOR IMMUNE HEALTH?
Research has consistently shown that a deficiency in fibre can significantly impair immune function and increase our susceptibility of gut health issues. The stimulation of the bacteria in the gut by Resistant Starches can enhance the absorption of micro-nutrients, such as calcium, and can also improve energy recovery, better immune system, nutrient utilisation and metabolism in the body.
